Steve’s Legendary New Years Day 2003 Montana Winter Ride
The Montana Legends from Missoula, Montana has
sponsored their Legendary New Years Day ride for 18 years. Their motto
is “Legends in our Own Minds” and they claim to be a disorganization of
antique motorcycle enthusiasts. I first read about their ride in the
February 2002 issue of the Thunder Press Magazine. The ride only goes for
7 icy miles and it starts at the Rhino Bar in Missoula and ends at the Harold's Club
in Milltown. The article that they wrote about me is in the February 2003 issue.
When I arrived for the event, I was asked, "With a ride so
short, why would you ride through cold winds and frosty snowstorms, plus come
from a long distance to participate? My answer was, "You guys are a legend in
your own time and for me, it will be an honor to ride with you plus I came for
the unimaginable challenge of getting here."
For any motorcycle rider that does any winter driving through the
snow, you're going love this story written by rider Steve Lewis from
Mount Shasta in northern California. Just a quick preview... 2,200
miles of road, 75 miles of packed and/or glazed ice, 2 snowstorms,
multiple rain showers, killer winds with chill factors below zero,
and at least 250 miles of frosty ice on the roadway.
